teggles is an Anglo Saxon surname, which has survived the rigorous course of history to the present day. Originally thought to have been fighting Viking warriors, rampaging their way across Northern Europe, the family were saddened to find out they were from a family of humble stile makers, (that’s a bench to help you get over a fence or hedge).
STEGGLES NAME VARIANTS:
Steggles occurred in many manuscripts and from time to time, the surname was spelt Stiles, Styals, Styles, Style, Stoyle, Steggall, Stegall with these changes of spelling occurring even between father and son. The official reasons for varying the spellings are such as official court languages, (those being predominantly Latin and French), who obviously had difficulty in recording words with no literal translations. It is only in modern times, that without the excuse of official court languages, simply ignorance, stupidity and the embarrassment of asking that immortal question of ‘what – I’ve never heard of that one before’, that we now find variants such as Seagulls, Speckles, Stegless, Staples, Steeles amongst others. Personally, I believe that these are from people who misspell whilst typing or possibly just do things like that for a laugh.
STEGGLES GEOGRAPHICALLY:
The earliest recorded Steggles was a notable Englishman in Cheshire during the 14th Century. Steggles were subsequently found in Northampton, and a contingent during the uprising of Cromwell packed up and left for Ireland. Steggles also emigrated to the climes of Canada, where a considerable population now reside. Australia and the US were also homes to the Steggles’ during the times that Britain was busy running the globe. True Steggles don't just live in Birmingham, but in South Yorkshire, in Canada, in the US, and in Australia and.........!
